BIOGRAPHY

RETIRED RCMP STAFF SERGEANT AND CRIME THRILLER AUTHOR

Shane Tuckey is a retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Staff Sergeant and crime thriller author. Over a policing career spanning more than thirty-three years, he worked on organized crime investigations, drug enforcement, undercover operations, national security, terrorist investigations, and international policing. His career took him from local investigations in British Columbia to complex international investigations involving police agencies and government partners around the world.

His work frequently required close cooperation with police agencies and government partners across multiple jurisdictions, including the exchange of intelligence and evidence internationally.

Shane was selected to lead the Integrated Intelligence Section in North Vancouver. Working with an integrated team of investigators, he developed methods for recruiting confidential human sources and targeting organized crime groups. His team focused on disrupting organized crime through intelligence gathering, targeted enforcement, and close cooperation with partner agencies.

Early in his career in 1985, Shane was seconded for three years to the investigation into the bombing of Air India Flight 182, which claimed the lives of over 320 people most of whom were Canadian citizens. It remains Canada's largest mass murder investigation and one of the country's terrorism investigations. It exposed him to the complexities of international policing, cross  border rules of evidence and the political realities of policing at both the national and international levels.

⎯⎯ INTERNATIONAL POLICING

For five years, Shane served as a Diplomat and Canada's Police Liaison Officer at the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi, India. He represented the RCMP and the Government of Canada across India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and the Maldives. He coordinated international criminal investigations, intelligence sharing, extradition matters, and police cooperation between Canadian and foreign law enforcement agencies. He also worked closely with Canadian ambassadors, senior government officials, and police leaders throughout South Asia to strengthen international cooperation against organized crime and terrorism.

During the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, Shane was Canada's only police officer on the ground. He coordinated information between Canadian authorities, local officials, and Canadians affected by the attacks while assisting the Government of Canada's response to one of the most significant terrorist incidents in modern history.

Shane later served at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) in Indonesia, where he coordinated international training programs focused on counter-terrorism and transnational organized crime. Working alongside police and security agencies from across the Asia-Pacific region, he helped strengthen international cooperation against emerging criminal and terrorist threats.

⎯⎯ THE NORTH SHORE MURDERS

After retiring from the RCMP, Shane turned to writing, inspired by the stories, people, and investigations he encountered throughout his career. His debut novel, The North Shore Murders, is inspired by more than three decades of investigative experience. Many of the investigative techniques, undercover operations, confidential human sources, and police procedures featured in the novel are drawn from real-world experience.
